Hey all,
Was wondering if it's possible for a blind person to fire pottery and other types of clay work safely, and if so, what tips do you have for doing so? I'm thinking of starting to get back in to clay sculpting but need to know if i can fire my own work, or if i'll have to rely on others for that task.
thanks for any help.
A, I think kilns cost around £2000 each, and B, knowing how hot the thing has to be to fire pottery in the first place, from a safety point of view, I'd check with your nearest local College or pottery studio if somebody could fire it on site there.

You could probably get a smaller one at a cheaper price from ebay. Personally, I'd ask at a ceramics studio. They would be able to give you a better answer. There's also a group from the NFB called The Crafter's Corner and they may have some people who work in pottery who can help you. You don't need to be a member of the NFB to join and it's free. I'm not a member but joined the list because I'm interested in soap-making, basket weaving and the like. If you want the address, I can get it for you.
that list could prove useful to me in this regard, and maybe picking up new ideas on what to sculpt. I'd rather fire my own work as i'm a little jumpy with others doing it, things could get broken or misplaced, and you're not anyware near touching when the claywork is being fired, not even my art teach went close. mind you that was high fire clay which fires at like 2500 degress, but still
